Berger & Föhr's art and design practice began through a chance encounter on a Boulder, Colorado, street in 2002. Ever since, Todd Berger and Lucian Föhr have collaborated as one entity, sharing authorship across all their projects.
Their work explores the intersection of conceptual and commercial art with a critical lens on identity. Drawing from their Swiss modernist graphic design theory background, they employ an experimental, research-driven approach to create reductionist works rich in context, meaning, and materiality. They aim to challenge established norms through critique, recontextualization, and subversion, presenting new perspectives that question the accepted or familiar.
Their diverse work portfolio spans drawings, paintings, prints, sculptures, brands, visual identity systems, zines, books, environmental graphics, murals, internet experiences, and physical and digital products. Berger & Föhr's hybridized approach to art and design bridges the otherwise bisected worlds of commercial and fine art.
